Ingenuity is a trait I love in entrepreneurs. Identifying a need and being willing to take the plunge to supply the market with that need better than anyone else. Well, anyone that has ever waited a few hours in a barbershop on a Friday or Saturday to get a fresh cut knows the value of having a barber travel to them.
However, a mobile barbershop is something entirely different. This is next level thinking for sure and the response via social media displays there may be a tremendous business opportunity for someone willing to take this and run.
The photo of the mobile barber was taken by someone who didn’t seem to appreciate the innovation, therefore, I don’t have the details on who this person is. I can tell you they are in the Cleveland area thanks to the original caption by the poster saying, “Only a Cleveland N***a would.”
A van was transformed into a mobile barbershop by taking out the middle seats and installing a barber’s chair, outlets for clippers and fresh lighting above. Not sure how much the renovation to the van cost, but it is a great start.
When I close my eyes and think of the possibilities for someone willing to take this business to the next level, I see a fleet of properly outfitted vans making their scheduled appointments with clients. Obviously, the exterior of the vans need to be painted and branded with the company’s logo, colors, slogan, phone number and website.
I”m positive people are willing to pay extra for the barber’s time and willingness to travel to them.
In addition, if a mobile barber doesn’t have any scheduled appointments, perhaps there could be an Uber like app attached where one can turn it on and find an available barber in the area willing to drive to them.
These are just ideas and can be played with (I seem to have more than I can pursue myself), but seems like there might be a budding enterprise here for someone willing to take the entrepreneurial plunge.
I know there is a market for this as a good friend of mine use to pay his barber to come to his house on Saturday mornings to give him a cut. Obviously, he paid a higher fee for the service and provided him a great tip, but this takes things to the next level because the barber will be able to ensure the same experience customer after customer which will cut down his time, increase performance and profits.
Hats off to the young man in the video allowing his ingenuity to flow and creating a great business in the process.
If anyone knows the person in the photo, please contact them and ask them to reach out to us. We would love to do a follow up with some details on his works and his motivation for creating a mobile barber shop business.
