At a time when professional athletes are only concerned with their well-being, endorsements or playing time, Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors continues to use his position in the NBA positively. This time, he is making a difference in the fight against malaria in Africa.

The NBA’s reigning MVP and three point champion has been a supporter of the Nothing But Nets organization and campaign since his days at Davison College. Since 2012, he has donated three life-saving bed nets for every three pointer made.

steph curryAccording to their website, Nothing But Nets  is a global grassroots campaign to raise awareness and funding to fight malaria, a leading cause of death among children in Africa. Earlier this year, Steph made a trip tot he White House to talk to President Obama in the Oval office about malaria and his work with the Nothing But Nets organization. Malaria is an important issue to Steph because he is a family man and doesn’t want anyone to lose their child over something that can be prevented.

A few years back, Steph took a trip to Tanzania to see his efforts in action. During the trip, he helped to deliver over 38,000 bed nets to refugees and their families. Steph took the opportunity to help put together the bed nets and strengthen his responsibility for this program.

Unfortunately, when this story caught some press, some in the black community took it as an opportunity to dump on Curry’s efforts with Nothing But Nets and their fight against malaria because he this wasn’t anything building the American black plight and what faces our people.

However, many came to the aid of Curry mentioning he is involved in multiple State side charities and efforts to support people here…..but y’all know you can’t expect too much from professional athletes in this country.

Their handlers and sponsors won’t allow them to get too involved in black issues in this country.

What do you think of Steph Curry’s malaria donations efforts?
