Star Trek’s Uhura Honored With Her Own Barbie

Star Trek has hit 50 years old! A show that broke so many boundaries and created one of the biggest African American role models of the time.

Uhura was a positive strong black woman with an important role on the U.S.S Enterprise. She also shared a kiss with her captain Kirk which broke new ground as the first interracial kiss on American Television.

To honor the anniversary Mattel have made some new Barbie dolls. Here is what they had to say.

Mattel will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek with a trio of Barbie Collector Star Trek 50th Anniversary Dolls inspired by Captain Kirk, Mr. Spock and Uhura. The dolls, for adult collectors and due to ship in the near future, will be sculpted in the images of William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy and Nichelle Nichols, with the individual dolls featuring a fully articulated body and sporting an authentic replication of their respective TOS costumes.
