We must stand with the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. The Dakota Access Pipeline is going through their sacred land. They say it will desecrate the sacred land and threaten their only water source. Their protest is out protest, they deserve our support and ally-ship.
It’s going to get harder for the protesters, tribes people and allies now as winter is coming, and in North Dakota, that means very cold and a lot of snow! It gets so cold that Fahrenheit and Celsius are almost the same, around -35 Fahrenheit and -37 Celsius!
On saturday Native American leaders vowed to keep the protest going through the winter. They are also lining up lawsuits against police treatment of arrested protesters.
Also other tribal leaders have been said to working on providing food, shelter and protection from the elements so the camp can survive and keep the pressure on.
Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault II said:
“We’re just working through some technical details as far as where the land is, and the type of land that can be used for some permanent structures,”
“Let’s reroute the pipeline. It doesn’t have to put our water at risk,”
The pipeline as it stands would provide the quickest route to bring Bakken shale oil from North Dakota to U.S. Gulf Coast refineries.
The protests, which for the most part are just asking for a pipeline redirect have been attracting national attention and has so far led to over 400 arrests, including that of prominent journalist Amy Goodman. Her charge was luckily thrown out of court.
