Shawn “Jay Z” Carter is doing something big. I wish this was available in my college years. Often people told me about scholarships that were available for me to pay for college. I heard so many times, if you get enough scholarships you could go to school for free. Which was partially true. I was an average student and 90 percent of the scholarship I found were for students with a 3.0 or higher, which I didn’t have.
Some people will not be very impressed or fascinated by this but I think we all know that your IQ does not determine your ability to succeed. Some people just need to be presented with opportunity, which is what this scholarship is doing. Hell Colin Powell was a “C” student.
To qualify for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund (SCSF) you must be 25 years old or younger, be a U.S. citizen and have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA. GED recipients, 2 year and 4 year institutions, vocational or trade school students can also apply. The wide range of eligible candidates is exciting. But there is a catch, all recipients are required to “give back” by completing community service and serving as mentors to younger, aspiring Shawn Carter Scholars. So the scholarship also teaches students the importance of giving back!
Jay-Z and his mother Gloria Carter announced the scholarship April 1st. Hurry up and apply the deadline is April 30th. The link to his website, where the application is located can be found is below:
