Despite a recent tussle of sorts between the sisters over Serena’s comments about police brutality it appears the amazing sisters are united in trying to help those in the community with their new center in Compton.
The Yetunde Price Resource Center in their hometown of Compton, California was opened by the sisters. The community hun is named after ‘Yetunde Price’, she was their older sister, a victim of gun violence in 2003.
This is the first time that the sisters have used their Williams Sister fund to support an effort against gun violence.
They also participated in the 2016 Healthy Compton Community Festival. They have not been directly involved in Compton projects since 2003.
Mayor Aja Brown said:
“The resource center will be able to map all of the resources in and around the Compton community while providing customized assistance that will be a vital asset to improving our ability to service our youth, adults and families,”
“The Resource Center will serve as vital support to existing non-profits and organizations that provide critical services to our community. I understand first hand the power of partnership and I am confident that the Resource Center will play a major role in breaking down silos in our community by facilitating key partnerships to increase asset leveraging and expanding the impact of services. The Resource Center will be able to map all of the resources in and around the Compton community while providing customized assistance that will be a vital asset to improving our ability to service our youth, adults and families.”
This is a great thing and we thanks the sisters for putting their efforts out there to help the local community.
