This is a sad and beautiful story of respect, friendship and character.
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Donte Moncrief was of course devastated by the news that former teammate Zurlon Tipton had died in an accidental shooting in Michigan.
Zurlon was just 26 years old when a gun in the boot of his car went off by accident as he removed a duffel bag from the boot of his car. He left behind his young daughter Zoe.
Talking to ESPN Moncrief said:
“That comes from being from the South,”… “Wanting to help people and always give back. Like my dad always says, it’s better to give than receive. I look at it as if she’s my daughter and I want to make sure she’s well taken care of. I know that’s something he would do for me.
”
He went onto say that when he looks at Zoe he sees Zurlon:
“He’s still here watching over us,”… “He’s joking, rapping, singing and walking around with his shirt off like he’s cut up. That’s just him. He’s keeping everything going.”
Our thoughts are with the family and we are glad Zoe has his father’s stand up friends to watch over her during this hard time.
