On Tuesday a 66-year-old Bronx woman was shot twice by an officer after they say she came at her with a bat. Of course, you can fairly ask why she is dead after swinging a piece of wood around! What about the damn taser!
Police are said to be investigating the same questions we may ask.
A neighbor complained that Deborah Danner was behaving irrational. Police arrived, as they have done previously for the same complaint.
Danner was said to be in the bedroom and threatened police with a pair of scissors, convinced to put them down she picked up a bat and came at them, several feet away.
Assistant Chief Larry Nikunen, the commanding officer of Patrol Borough Bronx, said:
“As she attempted to strike the sergeant, he fired two shots from his service revolver, striking her in the torso,”
Officer Sgt. Hugh Barry has been stripped of his badge and gun and placed on modified duty until the investigation is complete.
