Worldwide unity in the black community has been a call we have longed for that seems to be making some headway lately among many in the celebrity community.
Last week, singer Omarion joins the ranks of respected black people who will not tolerate blantant racism for a check or some cash. The singer refused to make an appearance at a London nightclub who had recently denied a few black women entrance because they were “too dark” and “too overweight”.
DSTRKT was the nightclub at the center of the firestorm of controversy. One night in September they refused admission to a London-based actress by the name of Zalika Miller and her friends because they were “too dark” and “overweight”.
Miller’s promoter knew some people that worked at the nightclub and got the inside information. In short, Miller was fine, but the women she was with were “too dark” and “overweight”. Apparently, for DSTRKT black people need to have a certain “look” to be allowed entrance.
This past Friday, Omarion caught wind of the reports and when he had a scheduled appearance to show up at the nightclub, he decided to drop this tweet instead.
I will not be attending #DstrktLondon tonight period.

The tweet said: “I will not be attending #DSTRKTLONDON tonight period.
And with that short statement and solidarity with the global black community, Urban Intellectuals fully embrace Omarion as a man of integrity and purpose in this world. He understands that our struggle is much bigger than the paycheck he was due to receive for showing up.
Hats off to you, Omarion. We always appreciate our celebrities that remain in the trenches of the fight with the people because we know your involvement and influence can spark the revolution.
