NFL Legend and Hall of Famer Jim Brown hold such status not just because of his actions on the field but also because of his position and activism as a black athlete. Brown stood up for what he believed in and much like Ali he inspired a new generation of black athletes and young people.
Colin Kaepernick has caused a huge controversy after he refused to stand up for the national anthem before a pre-season game against the Green Bay Packers last Friday. Many have accused him of being anti-american (this post highlights how that is BS), many have said he disrespects the military, many have said he is a traitor. However, more and more are standing by his side.
Jim Brown was being interviewed by on Monday by NFL Total Access. He said that Colin’s method was not how he would have done it but
“I listen to him, and he makes all the sense in the world. He’s within his rights, and he’s telling the truth as he sees it. And I am with him 100 percent.”
WORD! Jim’s backing is surely going to help him stand his ground.
Colin has said he will continue to sit down during the anthem in protest. Talking on the subject and why he did it, he said:
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color,” he said. “To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
What are your personal opinions about this?
I agree ?% with him as well. This man risked his entire career for his humanity beliefs. How many people will do that, not many. Thank you Colin.
