As the world weeps for Paris, Nigeria continues to lose more of it’s people to acts of terror and really this is the time to make sure people weep for Nigeria too. More than 2000 people have been killed in the country this year and no Western world leaders have visited or highlighted this innocent lose of life.
Let’s not underplay the Paris deaths but let’s not underplay the Nigerian deaths either.
The city of Yola was once again rocked by yet another terrible attack on Tuesday Evening.
Aliyu Maikano, a local Red Cross official said 31 people were killed and 72 were injured in a bomb blast.
The explosion rocked the busy Tipper Garage which is in the Jambutu area of Yola. It happened at 7:48pm local time not long after the evening prayers.
The area has a livestock market,open-air restaurant and a mosque.
Traders leaving the mosque and customers at the restaurant were caught up in the blast.
The attack comes just 5 days after Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari personally visited and gave medals to soldiers in the city fighting the terrorist organisation Boko Haram. He also visited a camp where displaced people (due to this conflict) were living.
Facebook reacted by activating it’s safety check again, the second time in a week, after CEO Mark Zuckerberg said they would be using it more often.
At present no one has claimed the blast but most assumptions point towards Boko Haram.
