Maryland Judge Dismissed after Ordering Defendant to be Shocked

A fine of $5,000 was paid by a former Maryland judge after he ordered a defendant to be shocked with a stun gun in his courtroom. Robert C. Nalley, the former judge, had pleaded guilty to civil rights violation. Besides paying the fine, the former judge also have a year of probation, have to attend anger management class and the highest court banned him from the bench indefinitely.

Because he was already on probation the defendant, Delvon King, was wearing a stun-cuff in the courtroom. After talking over the judge and continuing to plead his case when the judge asked him to stop speaking, the former judge Nalley ordered a deputy to “use it.” The stun-cuff administered a five seconds shock to King’s and he continuously screamed. Afterward the former judge took a five minute recess.
Although King was disobeying the judge that doesn’t give him the right to use excessive force on individuals that enter his courtroom. Everyone is expected to work within the law and that includes judges, police officers, and lawyers.
