Man who filmed Eric Garner chokehold video claims jail guards poisoned his food

Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed the now infamous video of Eric Garner being put in a chokehold and killed by NYPD, says prison guards were putting rat poison in the food. Due to all of the bad publicity that his video brought on the NYPD, he believes they are looking to take his life as well. A suit was filed by Orta against the city and Department of Corrections over “severe personal injuries” from when he was allegedly poisoned in March, reports the Daily News.

Orta has said that he has been repeatedly harassed by police ever since taking the video of Eric Garner. Orta’s Auntie started a GoFundMe account to raise bail for her nephew. They were able to raise over $40,000 to satisfy his bail. However, the state of New York would not accept the bail money until it was proven that the money was not raised illegally. After pressure from Orta’s lawyer who reported this to the media, the state of New York finally accepted the bail money and Orta has been released from jail.

Orta is currently in prison following at least 8 convictions and has arrest records involving guns and drugs.
