Kenya’s Kick Ass Karate Grannies Inspire: All Women Should Learn Self Defense!

In one of Kenya’s most notorious shanty towns, Korogocho in Nairobi, elder women face a serious threat of rape. Many say they are targeted because of the belief that they are less likely to be carrying the HIV virus.

This makes moving around day-to-day a little scary but a group of grannies have banded together and they really mean business!

The karate grannies of Korogocho were tired of being victims, so they started learning self defense and karate moves so that they can easily fight off would be attackers.

The women appear confident, strong and self determined. Something that surely all women could be?

Sadly, women are often the target of violent crime, be it by a partner or a stranger, it’s something women have to be aware of. In most culture women don’t really stand up for themselves physically but being able to defend and get out of hard situations isn’t just about power, training can overcome physical advantage, training can change confidence and make the world a safer place.

These grandmas are inspiring and setting an example, taking charge of your fate takes a leap and a little work but is always worth while.
