Idris Elba isn’t just a talented and respected actor, he’s a bonafide daredevil and adventurer as well.

Proof to this is the fact that just recently, he broke the United Kingdom’s flying mile record by driving a brand new car model by Bentley and reaching a speed that exceeded 180 miles per hour over a measured mile.

This feat broke the record which was established by Malcolm Campbell way back in 1927. To set the new record in stone, Elba had to drive the Bentley and maintain his travelling speed of more than 180 mph over a one-mile distance.

The event happened at the historic Pendine Sands which is located along the south coast of Wales. Elba’s driving speed was officially verified and confirmed by the United Kingdom Timing Association.

The stunt was part of a television program called No Limits that Elba was filming for the Discovery Channel.

The show takes Elba on various challenges that include dangerous sports like car racing and speed boating.

The show also gets in-depth on the dynamics behind each adventure. According to Elba, he agreed to do the show because he harbors a life-long passion with speed-based sports.

When asked about his record-breaking stunt, the actor said that he is honored to have participated in the challenge and that he’s glad to have followed the steps of a legend like Sir Malcolm Campbell.
