This Dynamic Duo is setting the bar high! Identical twins, Shera Grant and Shanta Owens, are truly living up to what we would imagine only identical twins can do. Born and raised in Birmingham these identical twin both graduated from Alabama State University. The twins also graduated from law school at Louisiana State University together. Both sisters also became prosecutors.
Shanta and Shera have been married for 13 years and have families that also mirror each other. Their husbands are not just childhood friends but best friends. Both have six year old daughters that are four months apart and three year old sons that are four months apart.
If Shanta is a judge it’s only right that Shera becomes a judge too.
Shanta has been a judge for almost 8 years now and she is up for re-election in 2020. Shera has been appointed by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley to take Jack Lowther’s place as district court judge, where she will preside over civil lawsuits.
It is looking like the sisters will be making history by being the first identical twin judges to serve in Jefferson County.
Shera will start her judgeship January 25th but because this is an election year she will have to campaign to keep her position. There will be 4 judges running against her fighting to become the Democratic candidate while the Republic candidate is running unopposed. So send Judge Shera Grant your best wishes! We’re sure she will rock this election!
