In September of 2014, a South Carolina state trooper, Sean Groubert stopped Levar Jones at a gas station for a seatbelt violation. On Monday, the former officer pleaded guilty to shooting the black man for following orders.
Consequently, he was fired and recently has been sentenced to maximum 20 years in prison.
As the video recorded on the dashboard camera shows, the trooper gets out of his car and asks Jones for his driving license. But when Lavar Jones tries to reach for the permit, Groubert shouts, “Get out of the car!”
The man hardly gets a chance to follow the new orders before the officer begins to fire. He shot Jones three times consecutively, who fell to the ground with his arms raised.
Moaning in pain, he asks the trooper why he was shot, saying “I just got my license; you said get my license.
What did I do, sir?”
