First Black Female-Owned Comic Book Store in Philly

Ariell R. Johnson decided to bring in the New Year by opening her own business, Amalgam Comics & Coffeehouse. Her comic book coffee shop is the first African American female-owned comic book shop on the East Coast.

Philadelphia is known for its plethora of comic book shops but Amalgam is making history. Johnson got the idea to open her own shop when her favorite comic book shop closed. It was very disappointing for her, so she decided to open her own shop to help give other comic book fans the same warm feeling she use to get while reading her comics and enjoying a cup of joe. She also plans on using her shop to host workshops, have movie nights, book signing, and BYOB nights.

She places value in her customers knowing that her doors are open to everyone by offering a diverse group of comics that people of all races and sexes can indulge in, While of course keeping the usual suspects available like Thor, Captain America, Batman, and Superman. Her business is doing well and growing its customer base.
