Exonerated Former NFL Player Disgusted by the Judicial System that Left Him Serving 5 Years in Prison

Brian Banks, a former linebacker for the Atlanta Falcons was wrongfully accused of raping a school mate in 2002 and ended up serving five years in prison for a rape he didn’t commit – weighs in on the recent sentencing of Stanford University student and swimmer Brock Turner.

Turner, 20, who was convicted of three felony counts for sexually assaulting an intoxicated women, has been sentenced to six months in county jail with the possibility of having his sentence reduced down to three months with good behavior.

Banks, in a recent interview, stated he was disgusted and appalled by the judges mishandling of the situation. He also stated that the Justice System failed the victim and failed our society. He believes the unfair sentencing practices boil down to privilege, not only racial privilege but social and economical privilege as well.

Banks believes the light sentencing that Turner has received is a result of the presiding Judge wanting to minimize the negative effects that a harsh sentence would have on the future of Brock Turner, but that minority’s and people of a lower economic status do not receive the same treatment.
The Turner case is another example of the benefits of being a white male in America. Only in America is the judicial system concerned about the future of a white male rapist. God forbid we give a damn about the girl who was violated. The American ju If the black man would have had some respect for the police he would still be alive. If the girl wouldn’t have been drunk she would not have been violated, hope she learned lesson. I know Banks was trying to be politically current but only in American can a white man get away with rape and murder.
