After one of the championships, President Bush invited the Chicago Bulls to the White House. Hodges appeared wearing a dashiki and handed the President a letter that asked him to end the injustice toward the African-American community.
These actions and Hodges outspoken nature rubbed many in the NBA community and administration the wrong way. They felt his actions embarrassed the league and as a result Hodges never played in the NBA again. He was black balled.
After filing a lawsuit against the NBA in 1996 for being black balled by all 29 teams, Hodges accepted his fate as a civilian, but never stopped fighting for the black community.
We salute you Craig Hodges for being a man of principal and fighting for justice in the black community as the athletes of the 40s, 50s, and 60s did long before you.
