An 84-year old white woman by the name of Roberta Green-Garrett commissioned the sign to be hanged on a building she owned in the small town of Dahlonega, GA.

Dahlonega’s residents, black and white, found out who put it up there and who ordered it to be done; but the taking down of the sign -23 screws later- and the confederate flag, did not end the controversy.
As a matter of fact, that’s where it all started. The whites in town are markedly embarrassed, and they should be.
Ms Green-Garrett, whose only response to the sign is “No comment,” seems to be a typical old white woman who longs for the good old days of institutionalized racism in America when things were pretty good for her kind and pretty bad for Black people. We won’t bother to belabor the fact that Green-Garrett’s ideologies are just one of many that were brought back to the surface of their psyches by the chaotic despotism of Donald Trump’s ascendancy to President Obama’s seat, there is not much of a point in going over that again.
It’s racism. There isn’t too much that happens in America that is NOT racist.
They’ve made America bankable on the legs and arms and feet and hands of racism, and there is no getting around it. Ms Green-Garrett stated that she had wanted to build a hotel on the town square and some have speculated that that SIGN was her way of getting attention to her plans, especially since she’s considering putting the SIGN back up.
They are trying to make it sound as if it is an isolated incident, but it is not — especially since white people standing near the sign and wondering WTF?! were applauded by other whites, given several thumbs up, and even received a “It’s about time!” from passers by, all white of course.
Those pickup trucks that rode by me, as a nine-year old child headed to school in the 1960s, the ones that so many Blacks in this nation remember from their own lives in the deep south, the ones with the confederate flags flapping, and white boys yelling “Yee haw!” and spitting out of the trucks, missing me only by a breeze that wafted through long enough to move the trajectory of the spittle, are back in action on the Town Square in Dahlonega. A new generation of Klansmen to go along with the Trumpesque narrative of hatred and white supremacy in America.
Dahlonega’s City Council made the public statement “The KKK does not represent the values of the town,” but by then it was too little too late. One woman wanted to know why they voted for it, and the other co-signed her statement by saying they didn’t vote for the SIGN. No, it appears that they didn’t vote for the sign, but they did vote for the sentiment that allowed the sign to be put up and as Green-Garrett said “maybe I’ll put it back up again.”
The spin on the race narrative now is that this sign was a local “ruse” of some kind to call attention to other things, but the ruse appears to be in people’s worst nightmares only.
Experience has taught us as Black people in America, African Americans, whatever … that while white folks can twist themselves into the weirdest contortionist positions dancing around their own racist bullshit … we can stand in one place and watch them do that “backspin dance” all day and the facts remain as they are and always have been.
America The Great is Racist As Hell, which makes it the least of all nations worldwide.
Here’s what was on Green-Garrett’s permit application to make the KKK sign permanent:
“Size of sign: 4×6.”
“Material of sign: wood (painted).”
“Color of sign: Gold with Black Lettering.”
“How sign will be attached to wall: Screwed.”
Screwed is absolutely correct. To the hills and back again.
The banner is gone at this time, the permit has been since withdrawn, but thanks to Green-Garrett, the people of Dahlonega GA are still scared and still royally screwed.
The folks who thought they had no voting power believe their votes counted when it came time to vote for white elitist misogynist racist fascist Trump, except that they seem unaware that they still don’t have the votes to elect a President and never will. Trump actually lost the nationals by more than 3 million votes, and he was elected only by a ruse on the part of Russia, or so it appears – investigation forthcoming.
What’s scarier than some people in Dahlonega GA with a KKK sign instituted and installed in the town square by a racist old white lady who will be dead soon enough and spiraling down to the hell she created for herself and where she belongs, is the fact that Trump could lose an election and still end up in a place where he does not belong pretending to be someone he is not. And all because the main people who should be taking a stand against Trump like the residents of Dahlonega took a solid stand against that sign are standing idly by waiting on someone else to do it for them.
The longer Trump stays in office, the more America co-signs racism, hatred, misogyny, and a new and bolder form of institutionalized American apartheid in the hands of a bunch of uneducated hate-filled hissy-fit pitchers who got mad that an elected President had the unmitigated gall to be Black.
