FAM: I heard the buzz about complaints and just saw the commercial for the first time a few minutes ago–I liked it!

However…

I can understand the aversion to feeling like your culture is being ‘caricatured’. I heard about the backlash and I doubt there would have been any if dude was black.

The fact that the commercial was funny doesn’t negate the fact that the main character was essentially dressed in ‘blackface’, but vocally instead of visually.

Now after all that, what does it say about me–a black, Caribbean woman–that I thought it was funny? Hmmm….
