Chicago Cop Finally Charged For Shooting And Wounding Black Teens In Car

by | Sep 19, 2016 | News | 0 comments

In 2013 Officer Marco Proano shot at a car of teens as they backed away from him. Whether they were right or wrong to do so, that was not a danger to him and dashcam footage caught the whole event.

At the time of the incident the police union supported him as he was supposedly concerned for the safety of one teenager who was trying to get out and got dragged when the car backed up.

My cynical self thinks that shooting at the car was probably a bad reaction to that!

Anyway, finally charges have finally been brought against the officer.

The indictment brings two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law for allegedly using unreasonable force with a dangerous weapon.

U.S. Attorney Zachary Fardon wrote a statement that said:

“When a police officer uses unreasonable force, it has a harmful effect on not only the victims, but also the public, who lose faith and confidence in law enforcement,

“Our office will continue to independently and vigorously pursue civil rights prosecutions to hold officers accountable and strengthen trust in the police,”

Two of the teens were injured in the shooting and were reported to have been black.

It was also reported that the city had also agreed to pay $360,000 to settle a lawsuit that was brought forward by three of the teen’s mothers.

Also, Officer Proano was also previously involved in a controversial shooting when he fatally shot a black man in 2011, who was reported to be armed.

Let’s hope he doesn’t walk free again for this mess.

The video of the cam footage can be seen below and you can read more in the Huffington Post here.
