Last week A Prairie View A&M University soccer player got herself into some serious trouble after she snapchatted a photo of her face covered in black tape, captioned “When you just tryna fit in at your HBCU.”.

Obviously, you don’t have to be a genius to know that, one that is damn racist, and two, that’s not even slightly funny.

Now, the student is at least temporarily off campus due to the backlash.

On Monday the university president George C. Wright held a forum in response to the viral snapchat post. He said that Brooke Merino is home and spoke to the 400plus students and faculty in attendance.

He read a letter from Merino where she said that she wasn’t even aware what blackface was before the post and how she just meant it as a joke, she repeatedly apologized.

Her teammate Braelah McGinnis also spoke saying

“I’m not condoning her actions, but none of you were there when the picture went viral, and she was shaking in fear and anxiety because she had realized what she’d done,”
