The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy reports that between 1990 and 2009 pregnancy rates dropped by 51 percent for Black teens in the U.S. From 2010 to 2014 the rate dropped by 65 percent.
Statistics say, despite age, 50 percent of all pregnancies are unplanned. With more education this number could drop too. The good news is more teens are being educated about the importance of having safe sex and abstaining from sex.
When T.V. shows like Teen Mom actual exist it’s not surprising that many adults believe teen pregnancy is steadily increasing although the exact opposite is happening. Researchers believe parents can help this number continue to decline. A few of their suggestions include, start talking to your adolescents early about sex, make sure you know their friends and their friend’s families, let them know you highly value education, and know what your children are watching, reading and listening to, just name a few. Basically be as active as you can in children lives and make yourself approachable.
