To say it has been a good week for tennis superstar Serena Williams would be an understatement. The current world’s number 1 ranked female tennis player turned 34 years old, but also hit another major milestone in her historic career.
Serena Williams first topped the tennis charts as the world’s #1 ranked player on July 8th, 2002. Since then she has spent a total of 260 weeks perched atop the world tennis rankings and there isn’t any sign of her slowing down soon.
This achievement ties her for 3rd with tennis great Chris Evert, who also has 260 weeks atop the world tennis rankings, but debuted at the top spot on Nov. 3rd, 1975.
Evert, who is a very supportive tennis legend, tweeted her support of Serena and her birthday by saying, “Happy bday, Serena….And the best is yet to come!”
Fitting words because we all know Serena is working hard on her game and plans to continue dominating the sport of women’s tennis for a few more years.
Who’s next?
Martina Navratilova sits just above Serena and Evert in the 2nd spot on the all time weeks at #1 list with 332 weeks. The top spot belongs to Steffi Graf with 377 weeks at #1, but this is the universal record for men and women.
By the time Serena’s career is over, most fully expect her to be able to take that crown from Graf and hold it for some decades to come.
Congrats to THE G.O.A.T. (The Greatest of All Time)
