Fox is finally ready to start working on a film inspired by the novel The Hate You Give by Angela Thomas. This follows a heated tussle over rights to the book. 13 publishing houses were in a bidding war over publication before an agreement was reached estimated to be somewhere around six figures by HarperCollins’ Balzer + Blay.

Amandla Stenberg is set to take the role of Starr, a 16 year old girl struggling to deal with her life, she is from a poor home and attends a prestigious school. Her world is shattered when she witnesses the murder of her best friends by police, who were unarmed. Starr is now put in a position where she must find a way to speak what she knows while at the same time dealing with her complicated life.

Amandla Stenberg just might be the most woke 17-year-old you know. She seems to be a perfect fit for the role considering how vocal she has been on issues such as cultural appropriation and social injustice movement over the past two years. Popularity of the movement has spread into other mediums such as comics, fashion, photography and visual arts.
