Britain’s planned exit from the EU has thrown Europe into a free fall, the pound dropping, markets crashing, other countries calling for referendums. The once mighty seems pretty shaky right now.
Africa, on the other hand, seems to be bit by bit getting it’s stuff together. There is truly great great news ahead….
We could be witnessing the birth of the United States of Africa!
The African Union are trying to implement a union of their member states. At the Kigali, Rwanda July Summit the AU will launch a common electric passport throughout the continent. They will try and implement full free-movement by 2020 and a free trade deal will be in place by as early as next year!
The passport will first be handed to heads of states and foreign affairs ministers and hopefully will gradually widen to more and more people.
The UK’s Independent reported:
The idea from the African Union has been modelled on the controversial EU Schengen free movement deal, which has abolished many internal borders to enable passport-free movement across the bloc.
Currently, 13 African countries have visa-free deals in place with each other. These allow citizens to visit another country without a visa, or offer them visas on arrival.
In comparison, Americans are able to travel to 20 of the continent’s countries without a visa, or a secure visa on arrival.
The African Union (AU), which represents 54 states, wants to abolish the need for Africans visiting African counties to require a visa by 2018.
It also wants to establish a free trade deal across the continent by 2017, as intra-African trade costs more than any other region.
