Great news means different things to different people with different circumstances. However, for Chicago Urban Preparatory School, great news is when every urban Preparatory graduate is accepted into a four-year college or university.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time the school has done so.

With all graduates being African-Americans from poor backgrounds, the school was privileged to have all the 2016 graduates successfully find college or university admission. Since 2010, the school has sent all its graduating students to four-year College or university.

Funny enough, the school was established in 2006 as a lottery-based charter school comprising of Bronzeville, Englewood, and West campuses. According to one student, it was unimaginable for him to not only be the first person to graduate from high school in his family, but also the first one to go on to college. According to reports published by NBC Chicago, and Newsone both parents and students were overwhelmed with joy.

According to Tim King, the school founder, the main reason why these students are doing this well is because of the hard work and determination that they have to improve their lives. A majority of the students comes from very poor backgrounds and their determination to seek a brighter future for themselves and their families is the key driver.
