Final numbers are not in yet, but it looks like upwards of 5,000 people came together in downtown St. Louis in support of “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot!” Coalition and campaign. This rally was sponsored by the AFL-CIO and had the participation of of around one groups coming together for a common cause, to fight oppression and resist police brutality.
Although those were the common themes from groups as far away as Palestine representing the Palestinian movement, to Ohio and a group of youth representing the John Crawford movement, this rally also had a goal, the arrest of Officer Darren Wilson.
They also hoped to drum up enough support to encourage Missouri Governor Jay Nixon to call for a special prosecutor in the mike Brown case.
Seeing people from all walks of life and all different colors, sexes, ages and beliefs 64 continuous days after the gunning down of Mike Brown and fresh off the heels of another police shooting and killing in South St. Louis tells me that if this isn’t a revolution, it’s definitely the start of a movement.
A movement that say, “Enough is Enough”!
