Guess Gay Isn’t the New Black After all

In a strange story coming out of Ohio, it would seem that a lesbian mother is suing an Illinois based Sperm Bank for sending her sperm from a black man. In 2011 after planning with her partner for a child, Jennifer Cramblett called in an order for a donor from Midwest Sperm Bank. The bank says on its philosophy page that their top priority is:

“At Midwest Sperm Bank, the personal needs of you, the prospective mother, is our top priority. Toward that end, we maintain the highest standards of quality control and assurance with regard to all of our cryopreserved donor semen.”

But instead of sending the vials from donor 380, they sent them from donor 330. So instead of getting sperm from a white man, she got sperm from a black man, and she didn’t find out until it was too late to send it back. In the court papers, it had this to say about Jennifer after she found out:

“Jennifer was crying, confused and upset. All of the thought, care and planning that she and Amanda had undertaken to control their baby’s parentage had been rendered meaningless. In an instant, Jennifer’s excitement and anticipation of her pregnancy was replaced with anger, disappointment and fear.”

While it is unclear what she is seeking as penance for the mistake, her lawyer stated that she would need enough money to leave town. As her hometown is almost completely white and her family isn’t racially sensitive. The Payton the biracial daughter who is now 2 years old is already facing prejudice in the all-white town. Jennifer is also listing numerous difficulties in dealing with her biracial daughter such as having to travel to a black area in order to get her black hair done properly amongst other things.

It would appear that gay isn’t the new black because black is still the least desirable existence to have.
