After Mark Zuckerberg set his staff straight about changing the Black Lives Matter hashtag to All Lives Matter his organization hosted TechPrep an engaging and informative workshop/ day of events. Over 200 African American students from the San Francisco Bay area were invited to be a part of this initiative. This field trip has the potential to change the lives of a lot of these students just by expanding their thought process and exposing them to more options.

Speaking from experience most inner city kids don’t know about certain careers due to lack of exposure. So TechPrep was a great chance for these students to be introduced to the different opportunities the tech field can offer.

This is an attempt to diversify this field. Especially given the fact that at Facebook only 2% of the employees are African American. Facebook has a community engagement team and a diversity team that worked together to make this happen.

There is nothing but space and opportunity in the tech field for African Americans. We hope that these students learned a lot from the field trip and see a future for themselves in the field of technology.
