When it comes to our people, most of us are much deeper than we appear on the surface. And this is the case when it comes to hip hop star, Nelly.

Hailing from St. Louis, the rapper/actor/activist is very proud of roots in the Gateway City, but acknowledges there are problems in the community that need to be sorted out by the ready willing and able. However, instead of flocking to the cameras and boasting about what they are doing, Nelly opts for silent assistance.

Nelly recently sat down for an interview with Hello Beautiful after the Ferguson anniversary on August 9th, 2015 to explain why he likes to support education rather than just lending his image, voice to the struggle.

Ex-NFL Player Made $25m, Quit At 29, Became A Farmer And Donates His Food To Pantries…..

“I try to do it through education because that’s the only way we’re going to get it. The only way we’re going to get this is to elevate,” Nelly said. “We have to get the kids to go out of these communities. Graduate. Get the knowledge. Come back to the community, and then they can run it because they understand the people and understand the severity of the situation.”

Following the event, Nelly did announce a new Mike Brown Scholarship for the children in the Ferguson era, but wants the world to know he doesn’t publicize everything he does for the black community. He is soldier for our resurrection, but just not a vocal one.

Nelly Moves In Silence

“It’s not about the hoo-ha,” he says. “It’s about the silent assassins. It’s the ones that move behind the scenes that get things done. The guy that’s screaming on television, he’s the diversion. I’m not a diversion. I’m going to get it done.”

Outstanding, Nelly! That’s what’s up! Don’t talk about it, be about it!
