Everyday, we learn something that makes you question what happened to humanity? UI recently learned a new born baby girl was left in a dumpster, like trash, by her Mom. The child died of asphyxiation, according to a Richmond prosecutor at the bond hearing of the mother.
Shavaughn Robinson is the 27 year old, young lady who gave birth to the baby at her job. Robinson decided, after the birth, to place the child in a plastic bag, tie the bag, put the baby in the trash and pile tissue over the baby. The baby was found later by a janitor.
Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Janae Craddock also told a judge that the mother, Shavaughn Robinson, told the police: “I don’t want people thinking I killed that baby for nothing.”
It was unclear what Robinson meant by the comment.
At today’s hearing, Craddock asked that Robinson be held without bond, arguing that she gave birth to the baby girl last week in a bathroom in an office building on Monument Avenue and left the child in a plastic trash bag in a Dumpster behind the building.
Craddock also said that Robinson, who is charged with felony concealment of a dead body, will be facing additional charges and is considered a flight risk. The police have labeled the infant’s death as a homicide.
Surprisingly, the bond for Robinson was set at $10,000 by Judge Angela E. Roberts of Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court. Many feel she should have been held indefinitely and the prosecution plan to appeal.
What did Robinson mean by “I don’t want people thinking I killed that baby for nothing.”
Could this elude to her being abused, raped, worse, or is she just out of her mind and clearly lost it?
This could be another case for us to face facts and start to look at mental illness in the black community. Yes, the country and world at large, but we deal with the black, African American community mostly here. Time for us to look in the mirror.
Many questions and lot of speculation circle this unfortunate case.
Why do you think she did it?
