A group of women in Rochester New York were denied entry from a club, outside there was a patrol car. The women started twerking on the hood of the car as it’s driver watched on in amusement.
Just a bit of light hearted fun, right? The officer wasn’t interfering with the ladies and the ladies were just being a bit rowdy, not causing too much trouble, right?
Well, Rochester police chief Michael Ciminelli seemed a bit upset and released a statement saying:
“We, as leaders of the Department, hold the Rochester Police Department, its uniform and its symbols in the highest regard. We expect all our officers to do the same. Our professionalism, both on- and off-duty are a reflection of all police officers,”
“Although the RPD personnel did not intend for this to occur, the result was an inappropriate and unacceptable image for the Rochester Police Department. This matter has already been addressed accordingly. I don’t think it was targeted or out of disrespect, they just thought it was going to be funny if we do this. None of us found it funny.”
The ladies apparently asked the officer if they could dance with the car and he gave them permission. It seems he didn’ realise they would climb all over it! Still, he was being nice and maybe they overstepped a bit but there was no need to cause a scene.
Local police union rep Ralph Gagliano defended the actions, saying:
“We’re constantly being told it’s important to interact with the public. It was appropriate how he reacted to the situation,” said Gagliano. “His intention was to allow these girls to take a photo in front of the car. They decided to carry on and bring attention to themselves.”
