Jim Harbaugh, the former 49ers and Michigan Wolverines head coach, stepped onto the field wearing a pair of retro glasses during Saturday’s game. It took everyone a little off guard as the coach doesn’t normally wear these correctional devices!
The distinct look is fairly iconic too and of course, like all gossip, people wanted to know why Jim was wearing them. His response was interesting, to say the least…
During his time at as 49ers coach he helped Kaepernick take the team to the 2013 Superbowl. However, when questioned about Colin Kaepernick’s recent protests he had some harsh words.
He intitally said that he didn’t “respect the motivation or action,” but later on, he backtracked a little and apologized tweeting, “To clarify, I support Colin’s motivation. It’s his method of action that I take exception to.”
So, what did he say about the glasses?
Well, first off he mentioned that he has had an eye test and he now has to wear the glasses full time. As for the style… Well, he said
“It’s a tip of the hat, a nod to Woody Hayes, to Michael Douglas in the movie Falling Down, and also a tip of the cap to Malcolm X,… In honor of those three men.”
Ok, so, he may have been half joking but in such times as these with all that is going on, his previous comments and his links to Kaepernick, maybe he should be careful about what words he choses?
