In Portland, Oregon high school basketball coach Pat Adelman, the son of former Trail Blazers coach Rick Adelman, decided to use some very unusual and what many are calling racist techniques in an attempt to motivate his white players to play more aggressively during a basketball game last week.
Adelman reportedly went in on his white players accusing them of being afraid to touch the black players on the opposing team. Witnesses say he then singled out two players who were black and demanded his white players to touch them. He then said, “Does that make you like black people now?” He reportedly asked the players, “Well, do you keep a flashlight handy when you have sleepovers with them?
”
This is reminiscent of the human zoos Europeans had in the early 1900’s where white people would come to stare at and feed black people as though we were not humans but some type foreign animals. As a parent I would be discussed too.
The parents of the two black teens that were objectified as though they were animals in a zoo, have filed complaints and have sought out to have the coach fired.
The district has not officially communicated any details about the case but a Portland Public Schools (PPS) spokesperson revealed that the coach is back to duties after a six day hiatus. Information from the PPS emails has also revealed that the district is currently intent on holding a meeting to discuss the matter further.
