Former NBA star Brandon Roy is being hailed a hero after he used his own body to shield kids from a shooting that was happening outside his grandmother’s house in LA over the weekend.

The 32 year old was outside and shooting started, he launched his body in-front to shield kids that were around and was consequently shot in the leg.

He will make a full recovery.

His former team Portland Trail Blazers issued this statement of support:

“Like many others, we’re just learning of the injury suffered by former Trail Blazers player Brandon Roy in a shooting over the weekend in California,” the team said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Brandon and his family during this time.”

Roy’s short but amazing career sadly ended in 2013 after a knee injury.
