Florida High School Blasted For Posting White ‘GOOD GIRL’ Black Bad Girl Prom Dress Code

by | Mar 30, 2017 | News | 0 comments

The posted images asked “Going to Stanton Prom”, 4 different posted print outs. One showed a woman in a figure hugging prom style dress with the words “YES YOU ARE GOOD GIRL” and the other 3 all read ‘NO YOU’RE NOT’. The images were posted to social media and caused quite a storm over the use of good girl being demeaning towards women.

Also, from what I can see, the only good girl is white, the non-good girls are black, tanned (maybe latina) and a mannequin! Now, you can never tell if these things are consciously racist but the fact is those stereotypes rub off and help push forward the negative feelings towards certain people and the oppressed feelings felt by people of color.

The image can be seen below:

Students turned back up to school wearing purple to support women and the posters were removed. They said they represented outdated dress codes as well as being demeaning to women. I have not seen any response to the race of the images in press regarding student response but here are some of the tweets after it went viral.

I’ve never been more proud of the Stanton student body. Stand up for what’s right. Don’t back down. They owe you an apology. #scpgoodgirl— Nidhi Saakshi (@NidhiSaakshi) March 28, 2017

The school immediately removed the images after complaints and the Duval Public County School District told Fox 30:

“The display of prom dress photos pertaining to recommend attire at Stanton College Preparatory School is not an approved policy by the school or Duval County Public Schools,”

“The displayed images were immediately removed by school leadership on Monday. Both students and staff have been informed this was not acceptable or appropriate guidance for prom dress attire.”
