Chicago’s Economic Boycott WORKED!! Magnificent Mile Protests Cost Stores Up to 50% Of Sales

Protesters took to the streets of Chicago on Saturday to disrupt the Holiday shopping weekend. Blocking entrances for a while to stores in Chicago’s famous North Michigan Avenue shopping area to raise concerns over the killing of a black teen by a white police officer and to highlight of what seems like a string of police brutality towards African-Americans.

The idea was that if financial pain could be brought to stores on what is often the busiest shopping day of the year then their voices would be heard. Reports are suggesting that their actions may have cost stores somewhere between 25%-50% of their sales for the day!

Many shoppers showed support for the protests which were by and large very peaceful. Of course some pushed their ways through the lines but even amongst workers and store owners support was varied with some showing support despite the drop in profits.

Some stores were made to close early, some said that shoppers had simply delayed their shopping trips to another day when protests were not planned and nationwide the Black Friday sales were actually down 10% but still the protests clearly had a HUGE impact!
