BOOM! #BlackLivesMatter Rejects Democratic Political Endorsement To Remain an Advocate for Black People

This is not your parent’s civil rights movement. The statement can be heard around the country and seen on tshirts, but it is becoming more and more apparent it is true.

In decades past, a political endorsement or acknowledgement from the Democratic party or Presidential candidates would have sent the black movement into esctacy. However, those days are long gone and the constant talk of change and promises are not lulling the #BlackLivesMatter movement into complacency or getting them to “fall in line”.

black lives matterThe #BlackLivesMatter movement made a strong decision to reject any and all political affiliations…and are beginning by giving the Democratic National Committee (DNC) a strong stiff arm to the face this week. They say all political parties “have historically attempted to control or contain Black people’s efforts to liberate ourselves,” and we couldn’t agree more!

This past Friday, the DNC was in Minneapolis, Minnesota for their summer meeting. They voted unanimously to form a resolution to work along side the Black Lives Matter Movement. However, this endorsement didn’t sit well with the Black Lives Matter Movement and their 26 affiliated chapters. Thus, they decided to reject the endorsement Sunday via their Facebook page:

[ADSENSE2]”A resolution signaling the Democratic National Committee’s endorsement that Black lives matter, in no way implies an endorsement of the DNC by the Black Lives Matter Network, nor was it done in consultation with us. We do not now, nor have we ever, endorsed or affiliated with the Democratic Party, or with any party. The Democratic Party, like the Republican and all political parties, have historically attempted to control or contain Black people’s efforts to liberate ourselves. True change requires real struggle, and that struggle will be in the streets and led by the people, not by a political party.

More specifically, the Black Lives Matter Network is clear that a resolution from the Democratic National Committee won’t bring the changes we seek. Resolutions without concrete change are just business as usual.

Promises are not policies. We demand freedom for Black bodies, justice for Black lives, safety for Black communities, and rights for Black people. We demand action, not words, from those who purport to stand with us.

While the Black Lives Matter Network applauds political change towards making the world safer for Black life, our only endorsement goes to the protest movement we’ve built together with Black people nationwide — not the self-interested candidates, parties, or political machine seeking our vote.”

As they say, CHURCH! Personally, I love the decision to reject the political approval and the lip service of these organizations.

They want to prove some loyalty to this group and our people, then let them show it with changes in legislation, laws, regulations, grants, support and reparations to a damaged people.

No more lip service!
