#BLACKGIRLMAGIC: Homeless Atlanta Teen Is Named High School Valedictorian And Earns Scholarships For College!

Her mother lost her job, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and lost her home. The family were homeless but despite the hardships Rebecca Schmitt looked after her mom and buckled down on her studies.

“Because of that, I had to mature before my peers,” Schmitt said.

And now, her maturity and hard work is paying off as she has become valedictorian at Maynard Jackson High School.

She skipped 4th grade, has been admitted to Spelman, Georgia Tech and Washington University in St. Louis, maintained a 4.2 grade-point average and earned $1,750 in scholarship money from The Dukes Foundation and The Robin Latimore Foundation.
