We all want to jet off somewhere but it’s not always airfordable, I mean, affordable, in one go! We all want to take some time out, but getting that amount of cash together can be difficult to pay for the flights! What if there was an easier way? Well, a new black owned tech startup has come up with an innovative way for people to afford airline tickets and book flights by paying in instalments.
The Chicago based startup, name Airfordable, doesn’t check credit (they are not giving credit either) but rather helps you book and setup a payment plan.
You need to submit a screenshot of your trip itinerary and details and then they give you a proposed payment plan. You agree and start paying in. Once you make the last payment they give you your tickets.
CEO Ama Marfo is a Ghana native. The idea came to her while studying at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
She was quoted:
“I wanted to see my family in Ghana during school breaks, but couldn’t afford the $2,000 ticket,” she said. “I stayed in the dorm alone or with other international students who couldn’t go home. Because of this personal frustration, I set out to determine how to make travel more accessible.”
COO Craig Henry was researching a similar idea when he heard about Marfo’s project and they joined forces to create Airfordable.
Right now they just deal with flights and say they have booked over a million miles already!
They want to expand to allow their own itinerary search platform and help you setup layaway payments for the entire vacation (hotels, excursions etc etc).
A super interesting idea and one that maybe isn’t only for those low on credit. For many of us, having a payment plan in place helps keep us on track. If the flights are competitive then maybe it would be worth a lot of us using Airfordable so that the impact of going on holiday doesn’t feel quite so big!
