Let me start by saying I am not a member of the infamous Bey hive but this was an epic weekend for Beyonce. I have always been a fan of her music and believe she’s a great entertainer.
Her new video “Formation” dropped out of the clear blue sky Saturday, February 6th and mouths dropped when she performed this powerful song Sunday at the Super Bowl on the Black Panther’s 50th anniversary. Oh yeah and of course she announced her tour too.
The song and video took me and a lot of other people by surprise. When you’re a conscious entertainer you can do so much to change the mindset of the sleep walkers.
And I believe Beyonce has done just that. Yes she is slaying but in an epic way. A lot of people may not understand the importance and symbolism behind what she did so let’s take a look at it.
10 things that stood and spoke volumes in “Formation”:
1. Her sitting on top of a police car, while it sinks in water.
2. The video being filmed in New Orleans and referencing Hurricane Katrina in the video. “What happened after New Orleans?
”
3. The black boy with the hoodie on, dancing in front of the police.
4. The graffiti on the wall that said, “Stop Shooting Us”.
5. “I like my negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils.”
6. The dancers rockin’ big afros.
7. Bey rocked a fro with a crown.
8. “I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros.
9. “I dream it, I work hard, I grind til I own it.”
10. “You just might be a black Bill Gates in the making” (she said this at the Super Bowl)
I love direction she took with this song and video, kudos Beyonce!
