Sunday night was Oscar night and after last year’s #OscarsSoWhite backlash it was looking to be quite the opposite (and it was!). Black film makers, actors and crew were getting ready to get the representation they should have had from the very beggining and likely winners were polishing off some epic speeches.
But it should be noted that it was also the five year anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin.
One of those in the running for an Oscar was Ava DuVernay, she was nominated for Best Documentary Feature for “13th”. In the end her movie lost out to “O.J.: Made in America”.
BUT she won in so many ways at the Oscars. She wore a dress by a Muslim designer from Lebannon as a small protest against Trump but before arriving tweeted this out there:
On my way to #Oscars. Taking a moment to remember #TrayvonMartin. Our hoodies are still up and the movement is still strong. #OurSonTrayvon pic.twitter.com/PdxuXMktOg

Gotta love this woman! She is pushing her own path in a world of white men.
