Despite the odds and disbelief of millions of people, Chicago’s own Jackie Robinson West baseball team did the impossible. They came from behind to beat the tough Nevada team that beat them by the mercy rule (10 run lead) in their first meeting to win the USA finals of the Little League World Series.

The team from the southside of Chicago will represent the United States of America in the world finals thanks to their courageous performance today, Saturday, Aug. 23rd, 2014.

With all the negativity in the media about Chicago these days, the city has really come together to rally behind these kids who are providing a positive image for the city with their hard work and dedication to baseball and doing the right things in life. It is a wonderful lesson for all the youngsters all over the country that if you continue to fight, you can win.

The Nevada team has been touted as the favorites since they clinched their position in the USA Championship game, but the JRW team wasn’t scared one bit.

In the first inning, the Nevada team jammed the bases and came up with a crushing two out, two strike double to drive in three runs. This put the Jackie Robinson West team in a serious hole at the beginning of the game, but they never gave up and never gave in.

However, in the second inning, JRW took a one run lead in the game. Thanks to their pitching and defense, they were able to keep the Nevada team from scoring in the second, third and fourth innings. This really set them up for the victory.

The team from Nevada didn’t go away quietly. They hit a home run in the fifth inning, but the JRW team tied the score and took the lead again in the fifth inning. Ultimately, they were able to hold on to a crushing 7-5 lead and win the game.

After beating the Philidelphia team lead by national phenom and youngest person to ever appear on the Sports Illustrated magazine, Mo’ne Davis a few days ago, the JRW team showed the nation and the world they were not finished yet.

The Little League World Series finale will pit the Jackie Robinson West team verse a tough South Korean team. It should make for some high drama and great baseball.
