Meet the Founder

Freddie E. Taylor is a dynamic entrepreneur, speaker, passionate history enthusiast, and dedicated philanthropist who has made a significant impact in the world of Black history education. As the founder and CEO of Urban Intellectuals (UI), Freddie has been on a mission to rewrite the narrative of Black culture and history that is often overlooked or misrepresented in mainstream education.

Thanks to Freddie’s visionary leadership, UI has sold over 400,000 Black History Flash Cards and has been featured in major media outlets such as TIME, Essence, HuffPost, CBS Chicago, Good Morning Washington, Milwaukee PBS, and ABC News Live. In 2018 and 2019, UI collaborated with JetBlue to feature the flashcards in the JFK (NY) and Newark (NJ) airports during Black History Month, further amplifying the message of Black history education.

Freddie has also made a name for himself as a prominent figure in the Black entrepreneurship space, co-hosting the TV show Black Business Icons with Lamar Tyler. The show highlights remarkable stories of resilience, innovation, and the entrepreneurial spirit in the Black community, showcasing dynamic and transformational Black entrepreneurs and their contributions to society. His commitment to rewriting the narrative of Black history, showcasing dynamic Black entrepreneurs through his TV show, and inspiring future generations to learn and celebrate Black culture is truly remarkable and worthy of recognition.

Freddie’s inspiration for UI came from the lack of Black history instruction that his sons received in grammar school. Determined to create a more accurate and empowering narrative of Black culture, he founded UI and developed the widely acclaimed Black History Flashcards in 2017. Since then, UI has expanded its offerings to include the #1 Black History Club for Children, the Sankofa Club, the UI Travel Movement, and the Black Math Genius program. Each of these programs is designed to inspire and empower people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about and celebrate Black history.

Freddie’s tireless efforts have earned him a place among the 8% of entrepreneurs who have grown and developed a 7-figure business annually, as featured in Black Enterprise. His impact on Black history education and entrepreneurship is a testament to his dedication and hard work. His latest achievement is the recent inclusion of the Black History Flashcards in Target stores and online for Black History Month 2023, making this powerful tool for Black history education even more accessible to a wider audience. Freddie’s legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire future generations for years to come.
