Mr. Kaepernick never ceases to amaze me. Collin Kaepernick‘s protest of the national anthem has been talked about for almost a year now. Although he has said little about it, he told us his fans from the beginning and left it at that. He has decided to let his actions speak louder than his words. He has donated his own money he has had fun raisers for wonderful causes and continues to do great things despite being blackballed by the NFL.
After recently being named citizen of the year by GQ magazine we recently found out that the former quarterback requested to only wear black designers’ apparel during his GQ photo shoot. WOW Mr. Kaepernick! Still holding strong to his cause despite the criticism.
In an interview with Refinery29 Kaepernick’s stylist Rachel Johnson said, “He wanted to wear designers of color and or designers who were women. He wanted to give an opportunity for designers to be featured in the magazine who wouldn’t normally be, especially for a cover shoot of this magnitude.”
Kaepernick is continuously showing us the importance of his silent. It’s so much bigger than a football career (apparently because he was willing to give up his career to bring light to the injustices people of color experience on a regular bases), it’s about right and wrong and in far too many cases it’s about life or death.
This is an opportunity these designers may have never been presented with if not for Kaepernick because typically for these types of opportunities black designers are easily overlooked.
His courage is admirable because their have only been a few before him that have risked the careers for a worthy cause.
