We often hear stories about police officers racially profiling black Americans. Far too often the individuals being targeted are blamed by the media for the unjust treatment they received. A famous football player feared for his life during his encounter with Las Vegas PD. Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett shared his experience on social media.
While in Las Vegas for the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight, Bennett was man-handled and threatened by police while they were responding to gunshots. For those who do not know, Michael Bennett also spoke out about inequality in the U.S. and openly supported Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the national anthem.
Bennett described his experience:
Yes you read it correctly, as he complied with the officer, laying face down on the ground with his hands behind his back the officer pulled out his gun, placed it near Bennett’s head and threatened to blow his f*cking head off if he moved. How will the department try to spin this one? Because you know he’s playing the “race card!”
Despite video or audio evidence the media and America always makes these incidents the black person’s fault. Hopefully Bennett’s civil rights attorney can paint a clear picture of what the real problem is which is racial profiling (assuming every black man is a criminal).
