One thing I truly hate is hypocrisy. Earlier today, we posted a story about how Connor Mcgregor told Floyd Mayweather on two different occasions to “Dance for me, boy”. Many people replying to the headline of the article on our Facebook post came to Connor’s defense saying he was just marketing the fight. Yup, it’s perfectly fine to use racial slurs, phrases and stereotypes when you’re marketing already the most anticipated sporting event in history. Like ESPN and Fox Sports 1 didn’t have news about the fight that’s one month away every block of their shows. Yeah, Connor’s comments really are making us pay attention to something we knew absolutely nothing about before! McGregor is a pure marketing genius! Right? According to some people, he is.
So, I guess his latest interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live was another skillful marketing ploy by the part time PR guru. Jimmy Kimmel’s on-air sidekick Guillermo was able to snag an interview with both Mayweather and McGregor that was aired yesterday on the show. In the interview he asked McGregor who would win in a fight: Him or Rocky III. Interestingly enough, this was his response.
“Rocky III?” McGregor said. “I’m trying to remember which one was Rocky III. Was that the one in the celebrity gym? I can’t remember if that’s the one with the dancing monkeys or not.”
Once is a mistake. Twice is a habit. Three times is a trend. And I bet money that racialized insult #4 is coming some time tonight at the third press conference. All of the people that are defending McGregor are looking real suspect right now, especially if they’re black. Am I doubting that they’re using the “Great White Hope” marketing ploy to sell the fight. It could be a major possibility. But, this trash comes out of his mouth too effortlessly. It seems like a part of his natural dialogue.
